The best SEO rank tracking software for most e-commerce teams in 2026 is Semrush Position Tracking if you want an all-in-one suite, SE Ranking if you want the most daily-tracked keywords for the money, and AccuRanker if rank tracking is the only job and your keyword list is large. Start with Google Search Console, which is free, and pay for a tracker only when you need daily positions, competitor tracking or rankings for keywords you don't rank for yet.
This guide is for Shopify and e-commerce marketers deciding whether to pay for another SEO subscription. You'll get what Search Console can and can't tell you, a checklist for judging any tool, six trackers ranked with current entry prices from each vendor's pricing page, a setup plan for a store, and a way to connect rankings to revenue so the subscription pays for itself.
What SEO rank tracking software does
SEO rank tracking software checks where your pages appear in search results for a fixed list of keywords, on a schedule, in the locations and devices you choose. It stores every check, so you can see trends, compare yourself with competitors and get alerts when a page drops.
That is different from the ranking data inside Google Search Console. Search Console reports what actually happened: the queries that showed your pages, how many impressions and clicks you got, and your average position. A rank tracker reports a snapshot: where a page sat in the results for a keyword at the moment the tool checked. Both are useful, and they answer different questions.
Questions a rank tracker answers well
- Did my change work? After you rewrite a collection page or fix internal links, daily checks show movement within days.
- Who is beating me? Trackers show which competitor pages rank above yours for the same keyword.
- Where am I in each market? You can check the same keyword in New York and London, or on mobile and desktop.
- What about keywords I don't rank for yet? Search Console only shows queries where you already got impressions. A tracker can watch target keywords from day one.
If you are new to the metric itself, our guide to organic keyword ranking covers how positions work and why they move.
Is Google Search Console enough?
For many small stores, yes, at least at first. Search Console is free, it comes straight from Google, and it shows clicks, which no third-party tracker can see. According to Google's documentation, Search Console keeps data for the last 16 months, and collected data should normally be available in 2 to 3 days.
It has limits that matter once SEO becomes a real revenue channel. Google says its tables "can show a maximum of 1,000 rows," that it stores top rows rather than every row, and that rare queries are omitted to protect user privacy. Average position is the topmost position your link held, averaged across every query where it appeared, so a page ranking 2 for one query and 3 for another shows 2.5. That blended number is easy to misread.
| Need | Google Search Console | Paid rank tracker |
|---|---|---|
| Real clicks and impressions | Yes, from Google | No, it estimates traffic |
| Data freshness | Normally 2 to 3 days behind | Daily on most plans, some offer on-demand checks |
| History | Last 16 months | Kept for as long as you subscribe, limits vary by plan |
| Keywords you don't rank for yet | Not shown | Tracked from day one |
| Competitor positions | Not available | Yes |
| Exact position by city or device | Country and device filters, averaged | Exact position per location and device |
Get the most out of the free data first. Our Search Console Quick Wins Analyzer finds queries sitting just off page one, and the Search Console Comparison Tool shows which pages gained or lost clicks between two periods. Our Search Console tips cover the filters worth learning.
How to choose rank tracking software
Most trackers check Google daily, export to spreadsheets and send email alerts, so those features no longer separate the field. Judge each tool on the things that change your cost or your decisions.
| Criterion | Question to ask | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Update frequency | Are checks daily on the plan I'd buy, or weekly unless I pay more? | Daily updates only through an add-on or a higher tier |
| How keywords are counted | Does one keyword in two locations and two devices count once or four times? | No clear definition of a keyword unit on the pricing page |
| Location and device | Can I track mobile and desktop separately, and down to city level? | Mobile tracking or extra locations locked to the top plan |
| SERP features and AI answers | Does it show shopping results, AI Overviews and whether my brand is cited in AI answers? | Only a plain blue-link position |
| Segmentation | Can I tag keywords by product, collection and blog so I can report by page type? | One flat keyword list |
| Integrations and reporting | Does it connect to Google Analytics, Search Console or Looker Studio? | Exports only, so every report is manual |
| Trial and contract | Is there a free trial or money-back period, and can I pay monthly? | Annual contract required before you can test it |
One more check: count the keywords you actually need before comparing prices. A typical store tracks its top collections, top products, a handful of brand terms and the blog posts that bring in buyers. That list is often a few hundred keywords, which every entry plan below covers.

1. Semrush Position Tracking: best all-in-one SEO suite
Semrush is the pick if you want rank tracking, keyword research, site audits and competitor research in one login. Every paid plan on its pricing page includes keywords tracked daily: 500 on the SEO plan at $139 a month, 500 on Starter at $199, and 1,500 on Pro+ at $299, with annual billing saving up to 17%. Pro+ adds multi-location and multi-device tracking, plus historical data and keyword cannibalization analysis. The Starter and higher plans also include AI visibility tracking, starting at 50 prompts tracked daily.
Best for: teams that want one tool for most SEO work. Watch for: the entry keyword limit is lower than specialist trackers at a similar price.
2. SE Ranking: best value for daily tracking
SE Ranking's Core plan is $129 a month (or $103.20 a month billed annually, a 20% saving) and includes 2,000 keywords and 100 AI prompts tracked daily. Growth is $279 a month for 5,000 keywords and 250 prompts. Its rank tracker covers Google, Bing and YouTube on desktop and mobile, and it checks AI search visibility across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini. There is a free 14-day trial with no credit card required.
Best for: stores that want a large daily keyword list and AI visibility tracking without enterprise pricing. Watch for: confirm on the trial that the location and device mix you need fits inside your keyword allowance.
3. AccuRanker: best dedicated tracker for large keyword sets
AccuRanker does one job: rank tracking. Its Professional plan was listed at €224 a month for 2,000 keywords when we checked, with tiers at 3,000 and 5,000, and its Expert plan starts at €764 a month for 10,000 keywords. Daily updates are included, and yearly billing saves 10%. Above 25,000 keywords, pricing is by quote.
Best for: larger catalogs and multi-brand teams that already have a research suite and want a fast, focused tracker. Watch for: it costs more per month than the all-in-one tools at the same keyword count, so it makes sense when tracking is the core need.
4. Ahrefs Rank Tracker: best if you already pay for Ahrefs
Ahrefs plans include tracked keywords: 750 on Lite at $129 a month, 2,000 on Standard at $249 and 5,000 on Advanced at $449, with annual billing saving up to 17%. Ahrefs' help center says the default update frequency for tracked keywords is weekly on all subscription plans, so daily tracking costs extra. The plans also include checks on AI prompts, starting at 150 on Lite.
Best for: teams that use Ahrefs for backlinks and keyword research and want rankings in the same place. Watch for: weekly default updates are slow for testing changes on product and collection pages.
5. Nightwatch: best for on-demand checks and a free trial
Nightwatch's Starter plan was listed at €79 a month billed yearly (€948 a year) for 500 keywords and 50 AI prompts, Professional at €159 a month billed yearly for 2,500 keywords, and Agency at €399 a month billed yearly for 7,500 keywords. Checks run daily in any location or language, it offers on-demand checks, and every plan has a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
Best for: teams that want to re-check a keyword right after a change. Watch for: the lower monthly figure is the yearly rate; monthly billing costs more.
6. Advanced Web Ranking: best for flexible schedules
Advanced Web Ranking counts usage in units: one keyword means one query checked weekly, on one search engine, for one device, and daily checks use 7 times the units. The Pro plan is $139 a month for 7,000 units, which works out to about 1,000 keywords checked daily, or 7,000 checked weekly. Agency is $279 a month for 14,500 units and adds one-hour on-demand updates and a Looker Studio integration. It covers more than 4,000 search engines, lets you mix daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly schedules, and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Best for: teams that want daily checks on money keywords and weekly checks on the long tail, inside one budget. Watch for: the unit math takes a few minutes to model before you buy.
Rank tracker pricing compared
Here are the entry plans side by side. Prices are monthly unless noted, and every figure comes from the vendor's pricing page on October 27, 2026.
| Tool | Entry plan and price | Keywords included | Default updates | Trial or guarantee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | SEO, $139/mo | 500 tracked daily | Daily | Free plan and free trial offered |
| SE Ranking | Core, $129/mo | 2,000 tracked daily | Daily | 14-day free trial |
| AccuRanker | Professional, €224/mo | 2,000 | Daily | Demo on request |
| Ahrefs | Lite, $129/mo | 750 | Weekly | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Nightwatch | Starter, €79/mo billed yearly | 500 | Daily, plus on-demand | 14-day free trial |
| Advanced Web Ranking | Pro, $139/mo | 7,000 weekly units (about 1,000 daily) | Weekly, daily uses 7x units | 30-day money-back guarantee |
For a store tracking 500 keywords daily, the entry plan of every tool except Ahrefs covers you. Above 2,000 keywords, SE Ranking and AccuRanker's entry tiers still fit, while Semrush and Nightwatch need a higher plan. Why small ranking moves matter
Daily tracking is worth paying for because clicks fall steeply as you move down the page. A move from position 4 to position 2 can be worth more than reaching page one from page two.

In First Page Sage's 2026 CTR study (updated September 22, 2026), the blended organic click-through rate was 7.1% at position 1, 3.0% at position 2 and 1.7% at position 3, falling to 0.2% at position 10. The same study found CTR was far lower when an AI answer appeared on the page: 3.6% at position 1, against 22.6% when there was no AI answer. That gap is why AI answer tracking now matters as much as blue-link positions.

How to set up rank tracking for a Shopify store
A tracker is only as useful as the keyword list inside it. This setup takes an afternoon and keeps reporting simple.
- Pull your current queries. Export the last 3 months of queries and pages from Search Console. Sort by impressions and keep the queries tied to products, collections and buying-intent blog posts.
- Add target keywords you don't rank for yet. Include the collection and product terms you want to win, even with zero impressions today. This is where a tracker beats Search Console.
- Map one keyword to one page. Assign each keyword the URL that should rank. If two pages trade places for the same keyword, check them with our Keyword Cannibalization Checker.
- Tag by page type. Use tags such as product, collection, blog and brand, so you can report on each template.
- Set location and device. Track the countries you ship to, and track mobile separately if most of your traffic is on phones.
- Add three to five competitors. Use the stores that actually outrank you, not the brands you consider rivals offline.
- Set alerts for big drops only. Alert on moves of several positions on money keywords, so the team pays attention when it matters.
- Review weekly, report monthly. Check movement each week, and report monthly alongside clicks and revenue from Search Console and Google Analytics 4.
Connect rankings to revenue
Rankings are a leading indicator, not the result. A report that only shows positions can look great while revenue stays flat, because the keywords that moved may not sell anything. Close the loop with three numbers each month:
- Clicks by page type from Search Console, filtered to the URLs you track.
- Organic revenue and conversion rate from Google Analytics 4, using the Organic Search channel, which Google says now includes visits from AI Overviews and AI Mode.
- Revenue per tracked page, so you can see which ranking gains turned into orders.
Our guide to SEO ROI shows how to turn those numbers into a return on what you spend, and SEO tracking covers the full measurement setup.
This is also where an agency differs from software. A tracker tells you where you rank. QCK is an SEO, AI search and CRO agency, not a software vendor, so we don't appear in the list above. Our founder is a CPA, so revenue comes first, and we report revenue to clients every month. If you would rather have a team that connects rankings to orders, see our e-commerce SEO services.
Picking your tracker this week
Start with Search Console and list the keywords you actually need. If you need daily positions for fewer than about 2,000 keywords, trial SE Ranking and Semrush side by side for a week and keep the one your team opens. If tracking is the main job and the list is large, add AccuRanker or Advanced Web Ranking to the trial. Whatever you pick, judge it by whether the keywords it tracks lead to revenue. If you want help deciding which pages and keywords to push first, talk to our team.
